Corporate finance salary survey 2008/2009

The WH Marks Sattin Corporate Finance salary survey is an overview gathered from the extensive network of clients and candidates we have built up over a number of years. This year, the bonus amounts were a key debating point as they varied widely from firm to firm and person to person, rather than following any particular trend. Clearly 2008/2009 has been one of significant upheaval and WH Marks Sattin has based these reduced bonus percentages on average information taken in February/March 2009 from candidates following the payouts received.
The amounts we have chosen to indicate are an average taken from speaking to hundreds of candidates over the last few months, from boutiques to bulge brackets, who received their bonuses. We have noticed the following trends:
• Analysts were the hardest hit. It's fair to say that their bonus this year was more than likely to keep their jobs.
• Banks that have undergone mergers or significant upheaval were less likely to reward. For instance one month's salary for some was the bonus at DrKw.
• Boutiques and banks outside of the Bulge Brackets tended to offer higher rewards - Perella Weinberg for instance keeping the high levels of typical bonuses that bankers expect.
• As a sector, Leverage Financiers were significantly cut and there was an initial glut of FIG and Media bankers available. However this has now evened out to be indiscriminate across sector.
We recognise that these figures will be somewhat skewed, given that the very best candidates that received the highest bonuses were less likely to explore the market and therefore partake in this survey. The information provided in our salary survey has been compiled by our experienced consultants and reflects both the placements we have made and our specialist market knowledge.
Due to our specialist knowledge within Corporate Finance and Financial Services we are also able to provide your organisation/team with a tailored salary survey that enables you to benchmark salary trends and employment conditions against your competitors.
