Accounting jobs in the Channel Islands (see below for current opportunities)

The Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey are often associated with beautiful unspoiled landscapes and breathtaking coastlines; a perfect place to get away from it all. However, there is definitely a lot more to this holiday destination that you may have once thought.

Traditionally, the Channel Islands have been a huge offshore hub and in the current market continue to buck the trend and deliver year on year growth. This has lead to a surge in accounting jobs for both local residents and those looking to re-locate to the islands to gain and develop valuable offshore experience.

So why should you consider an accountancy job in the Channel Islands?

  • 20% fixed rate of income tax with salaries at a similar level to London
  • Plenty of well known blue chip employers able to offer employment and a transfer back in the UK later down the line
  • Wide variety of accountancy jobs and a lot less competition for roles that require experienced qualified accountants, especially fund accounting jobs and financial reporting jobs
  • Better work life balance, limited commute and no tube!

Your Career
If you are a newly qualified accountant, moving offshore when you qualify for a few years is fairly common. As well as arming you with valuable and highly prized technical knowledge that you can easily transfer back to London or the UK.

For those of you who have a few years post qualified experience a move to the Channel Islands (even if it is only for a couple of years) will increase your employability and accelerate your career. Offshore experience – especially in financial services - can increase your chances of promotion, help develop strong technical skills and make your experience significantly stand out in comparison to other candidates.

Relocating
The majority of employers will assist with relocation costs and often base their assessment on a case by case basis. For particularly niche vacancies, companies will secure a housing license for you. Basic salaries and benefits tend to be similar to London with the added advantage of paying considerably less tax. Council tax is non-existent and only Jersey has a very small value added tax levied on goods and services.

To request a candidate information pack detailing information on moving to the Channel Islands, please email Glen Roberts on james.mason@whmarkssattin.com or call 020 7321 5000 should you wish to discuss your career options further.
