Interim Finance Director - Private Equity
A small Private Equity house specialising in high-growth start up's within the Media industry needed to bring in an Interim Finance Director to work closely with the MD and Investment Directors; working on assessing potential new investments and due diligence. They were also required to assist with the exit of a number of smaller investments and setting up adequate reporting and management informations on those within the portfolio.
It was important to find an Interim Manager with not only Private Equity experience but a thorough understanding; gained throughout their career of the media sector. We were able to present to the client a shortlist of three potential Interim Managers within 24 hours, this resulted in the successful hire of one our shortlist. After 6 months the assignment is now completed with the PE house gaining valuable insight into both future and current investments, even more pertinent due to current market valuations changing so rapidly.
Interim Divisional Finance Director - Business Services
Due to a long term sickness this large Business Services firm needed to bring in an Interim Divisional FD for a specific Business Unit within a £300M turnover Division. Apart from the pre-requisite technical skills and previous sector experience it was key that the incoming Interim possessed a range of softer skills such as leadership and motivational ability as the team had been through a large amount of change over the previous 12 months.
Three appropriate candidates were submitted the same day as the brief and an offer was made two days later. The Interim FD hired has now commenced an initial 3 month contract and has been able to make an immediate impact giving a fresh perspective on the Business Unit.
Integration Director - Property Sector
We were briefed on a highly confidential assignment from a client who were in discussions about a £500m deal with a listed property business, and if successful, wanted to recruit an interim manager with significant large-scale integration experience who would fit well into the small executive team that was about to go through a transformational change.
Three of our shortlisted candidates met with the Finance Director, CEO and HR Director within days of the brief, but there was a waiting game until the deal was very close to being done. The morning of the deal finally closing, the successful candidate started and has exceeded expectations, working with both companies, integrating the finance functions and ensuring significant cost savings were made.
Interim Finance Director – Government Agency
An executive agency, (part of one of the largest Government departments) was undergoing a significant turnaround and the Interim CEO wanted to bring in a commercial Finance Director to assist him and transform the finance function. The organisation had a number of particular complexities and needed to recruit someone who had worked in large, politically complex businesses who could make an immediate impact.
Within ten days, second round interviews had been conducted and the successful candidate, an ex-FTSE 100 Group Finance Director was placed. The initial three month period was extended to twelve months before handing over a much-modernised and improved finance function to the new permanent Finance Director.
Group Planning Director - PE-backed business services
A business services group that had been formed through a buy-and-build programme needed to set up a group finance function and wanted to bring in an experienced Interim Manager who had previously worked for private equity investors and could set up budgets and cash models to reflect the leveraged environment of the business.
The successful candidate had worked with WH Marks Sattin on a number of previous occasions and had both experience in large corporates and private equity-backed businesses.
He successfully set up financial models, long-term budgets and plans and challenged the expectations of the divisional Managers to ensure finances were kept in a robust shape during difficult times. The private equity investors have since used his services to help with other portfolio companies due to his success in this role.
