Wellcome Trust
Wellcome Trust is a global health organization that sustains the best intelligence in biomedical and medical fields of study. Equivalent in size to a FTSE 100 company and founded by the pharmaceutical company which is today known as GlaxoSmithKline, it has gained a formidable presence as a world class promoter of UK scientific research.
The research they support into human and animal welfare has revolutionised our understanding of global diseases. They exert world wide influence over health related policy implementation and by facilitating pharmaceutical product development they help bridge the gap between discovery and application.
By 2009 their annual spend exceeded £600 million including significant global collaborations with leading health organizations. 2011 marks the Trust's 75th anniversary, a time when their investment portfolio is in excess of £14 billion having risen by 14.5% on average each year since 1986.

Employee Contribution and Diversity
‘Success in our mission, to tackle the most significant problems relating to human and animal health, demands diversity of people, ideas and approaches. This diversity will be reflected in the staff that we employ and the people we support.’
- Sir Mark Walport, Director of the Wellcome Trust
As Sir Mark Walport's quote conveys, the key to the success of the trust and its continued ability to meet and exceed its objectives is the excellent workforce it employs. Currently around 600 people strong, they boost some of the brightest academic and commercial minds in the industry.
Drawing talented individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and environments enables them to deliver extraordinary achievements through these extraordinary people.
Henry Wellcome, the founder of the organization remains an important inspiration and example to the Trust of the innovative ways of thinking and researching that are achieved by a truly diverse working environment.
