Finance Controller

I am working with a client, a market leading financial services group, who is looking for a Qualified Accountant to join as Finance Controller to work within the London Finance team of the Corporate and Investment Banking business reporting to the UK Head of Norms Advisory and Controls (NAC).

The NAC team is responsible for the supervision of the accounting control frame work for the businesses UK entities comprising: London Branch, Investment banking, Investments, brokerage services and private banking. The NAC team's key mission is to review, verify and report on the effectiveness and quality of the accounting control framework. The team also provides financial monitoring on the quality of the accounting close process.

Key responsibilities

  • Check the quality and exhaustiveness of the accounting control framework on a front to back basis.
  • Review the consolidated reporting of the results of accounting controls to the Group through the certification Sox light approach and add the results of the testings and Level 2 opinion to the certification to the entity CFOs and CEOs,
  • Remedial action plan follow-up on :
    • Identify anomalies and key risk areas
    • On-going risks correctly monitored ensuring remedial actions are being implemented correctly.
  • Be responsible for the monitoring of key control processes e.g. permanent supervision.
  • Follow the implementation of certification tool systems. Look to continually improve the control framework ensuring that controls are 'fit for purpose'.
  • Will be required to provide detailed written reports on their missions, which are well presented and organised and be able to verbally present their report conclusions when required to the entity CFOs.
  • Deliver a high quality closing monitoring process. Ensure the accounting close key risks are clearly identified, understood and communicated to the DFIN management team and external parties.
  • Oversee and monitor key monthly DFIN controls.
  • Facilitate timely feedback and response to the audit recommendations - both external and internal.
  • Be the 'go to person' for all control framework monitoring and supervision issues.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant qualifications (ACA/ACCA). A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience or equivalent
  • Ideally from a Banking and Capital Markets background
  • Experience gained within both practice and industry
  • Demonstrating they have experience in reviewing and critically analysing a process or business
  • Work in a team environment
  • Proven and demonstrable senior management interaction
  • Ability to understand complex processes.
  • Capable of using initiative to deal with multiple challenges
  • Excellent planning and organisational ability, can juggle multiple demands and prioritise work accordingly
  • Attention to detail and a focus to achieve presentable and high quality work
