C10 - Finance Manager - Trading Accounts (General Merchandise & Clothing)

In this role, you'll be pivotal to ensuring that our corporate and business strategies are supported by the very best financial accounting and control processes - and that these processes continually maximise our profitability and efficiency.

As a Finance Manager within our Financial Control team, you will combine technical accounting with coaching, communication, influencing, leadership and prioritisation skills to ensure that we maintain a strong control environment over the General Merchandise and Clothing business, and help the Traders/Buyers to deliver their financial plan (Sales & GP).

The Ins and Outs:

    • As Financial Controller for GM & Clothing areas you would manage accurate and timely production of financial information for internal/external reporting, including compliance with group accounting policies and procedures and managing the related financial control environment,
    • Reviewing financial performance on a monthly basis with Commercial Finance customers including clear articulation of variances to plan/forecast,
    • Maintaining an awareness of risk management issues across the General Merchandise & Clothing businesses, and lead cross functional projects to enhance the control environment,
    • Advising the Traders/Buyers and Commercial Finance teams on the risk and financial control implications of new business initiatives,
    • Review of month-end balance sheet reconciliations,
    • Delivery through others - managing a team of 2 qualified accountants, a key part of the role is coaching and developing these colleagues, as well as managing the resources within the team to deliver team priorities,
    • Delivery of process improvement within the team, looking for opportunities to make processes more efficient.

What you'll need:

  • Qualified accountant with at least 1 year of post qualification experience (ACA, ACCA or CIMA),
  • Strong technical accounting background - practive experience and US GAAP/SOX experience preferred,
  • Leadership experience, in particular coaching and developing others,
  • Confidence liaising with people at all levels,
  • Great analytical skills and a strong communicator,
  • Able to quickly prioritise and make decisions,
  • Able to think laterally and challenge the status quo.
