Senior Microsoft L3 / L4 Platform Engineer - 6 Month Contract

A global Energy company is seeking a Senior Engineer with a 3rd and 4th Line Microsoft support background for an initial 6 month contract in greater South West London. Extensive experience with SCCM and MS Defender is a must. You will be part of a team of 10 engineers providing 3rd and 4th line support to a global network of colleagues and external users and liaising with external vendors to resolve 4th line issues.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for resolving 3rd and 4th line defects and issues within a Windows 10 environment
  • Designs, tests and operates custom built or customised IT platforms aimed at improving business delivery processes.
  • Trouble-shooting and interpreting error logs
  • Planning, executing and implementing engineering change
  • Acts in accordance with professional engineering practices, including Internet protocols, coding standards and reviews, source control management, design and operations processes.
  • Works with the team to create a clear vision and maximise value from current applications and emerging technologies demonstrating technical thought leadership in their business area across a wide range of technologies.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of the wider IT team by supporting and coaching Platform Engineers and proactively improving the quality standards and efficiency of delivery.

Essential Criteria

  • Has operated in corporate enterprise environments, within the Microsoft End User Compute technology space, with extensive experience in a relevant role or roles.
  • Extensive experience with Windows 10 and Microsoft Platforms
  • Deep technical knowledge of the Microsoft stack
  • SCCM experience essential / MS Defender desired but not essential
  • Certification preferable, or proven experience in engineering and operating of Microsoft Windows 10 Operating System, Office, SCCM and Scripting.
  • Troubleshooting issues, defects, complex problem solving, design & planning of Change.
  • Experienced with client infrastructure integration (ie Active Directory and Cloud-hosted environments)

Desirable

  • Confidence with the commonly used network equipment in an enterprise environment (such as Cisco, Juniper, HPE/Aruba, etc).
  • Exposure to adjacent domains such as platforms, storage, databases, etc. You know your way around a command-line.
  • You have good knowledge and understanding of modern development methodologies (Agile using Scrum and/or Kanban).
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and techniques such as Value Stream Mapping, Lean, flow, eliminating waste.
  • Experience with modern approaches to source-code management and control through tools like TFS and Git/GitHub.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to relate complex topics in simple and accessible language.
