Financial Services Provides the most Desirable Jobs

Financial services provides some of the most desirable jobs, a new survey has shown.

It might be fair to assume that people would name jobs like footballer and TV presenter at the top of a list of the UK's best 25 occupations, but new research has shown that Britons are a much more realistic lot.

A poll was carried out on employees by global company Glassdoor in a bid to discover what people rate as the best occupations. An initial longlist of 100 was whittled down by ranking each role by earning potential, career opportunities and number of job vacancies.

Suggesting the respondents were seriously and sensibly considering their long-term options when replying, finance manager came in at second with a score of 4.4, second only to marketing manager with a minimal lead of 4.5. In terms of leading industries, professional services and technology were most highly regarded for offering the most jobs in a range of different sub-sectors.

Glassdoor's Joe Wiggins told the Guardian it's a good idea for jobseekers to "think about the bigger picture", as the research considered factors as well as just salary.
"For anyone looking for a job right now with a good balance of pay and prospects, these are the ones to consider," he pointed out.

The news rounds off a good month for those on the lookout for roles in the financial and insurance sector. Not only does this survey suggest that people already in such positions will be happy with their lot, but the number of job opportunities on offer also seems to be on the up.

Indeed, the Office for National Statistics recently said that in the three months to the end of January 2015, there were 35,000 vacancies in the sector, significantly better than the 29,000 to 31,000 seen in the quarterly figures in late 2013 and early 2014.

Perhaps it could be time to get in touch with a skilled recruitment agency to track down the best of what's available - the Holy Grail role of finance manager might even crop up among the vacancies.
