It’s always a pleasure to see familiar faces return to Marks Sattin. We’re proud to be a company people choose to come back to after taking a break for whatever reason, and we're excited to welcome back Elizabeth Howe, who was part of the team in Leeds in 2018. After some time at another company and taking a career break to start a family, Elizabeth has rejoined us and we’re happy to have her back on board!

Elizabeth, tell us a little about your career journey with us so far?

After spending two years travelling and living in Australia, I joined Marks Sattin in 2018. It was my first role in recruitment, and I was impressed by the supportive culture and the clear opportunities for growth within the business.

What inspired you to rejoin us after some time away?

What inspired me to rejoin was really a combination of staying connected and seeing the continued success of the team. I kept in close contact with Steph and Laura after I left, and it was inspiring to see how much they had grown within the company and how well they were doing. I also really missed the organisational culture, it had always been a supportive and motivating environment, and that stayed with me. So when I was preparing to return to work after maternity leave, Marks Sattin was definitely on my radar. Laura reached out at just the right time, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to come back to a place that had already played such a important role in my career.

You recently had a baby, congratulations! Can you share your top piece of advice for others preparing returning to work after parental leave, especially in terms of the support that made the biggest difference?

Returning to work after maternity leave is definitely a big transition, and my top piece of advice would be to be kind to yourself and take it one step at a time. It takes a little while to find your rhythm again. What made the biggest difference for me was the support from the team and flexibility I was given.  Knowing I was coming back to team that cared made all the difference.

How are you finding balancing your career with part-time work and parenting responsibilities - any routines or strategies that help?

Balancing work with parenting definitely has its challenges, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. One of the biggest things that’s helped me is having a clear routine, not just at home, but with work as well. Dale and Laura were really supportive in helping me plan my workday in a way that allows me to get the most out of my time.

I was initially nervous about returning to what can be a pressurised environment, but being open with my team about my schedule and setting clear boundaries, like logging off at a set time and being fully present during family time has really helped me stay balanced and avoid burnout.

What’s made a huge difference is the supportive culture here. It’s allowed me to ease back in without putting too much pressure on myself, which has been so important in making the transition feel manageable and positive.

What are your career aspirations & goals now that you’re back in the fold with us?

Now that I’m back, my main goal is continue building on the strong foundation I had before stepping away. I’m really focused on re-establishing, connecting with candidates and contributing to the team’s success. Longer term, I’m excited to keep developing my skills and taking on new challenges when the time feels right. Being back in such a supportive environment has really reignited motivation, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this net chapter takes me.
