How has Brexit affected the Recruitment market?

Matthew Wilcox our consultant managing the role

In short it hasn’t! Last week marked five months since the UK decided to leave the European Union. On the 23rd June while standing outside our offices watching the public walk by – you could see anxiety, commotion (literally people crying) because people thought they were going to lose their jobs, the UK was going to return to a recession etc. The fact was nobody really knew what was going to happen.

Five months on and we have been able to collate some data and actually see if anything has changed since Brexit. It hasn’t – companies are still recruiting and it is business as normal. In fact, our Q3 and Q4 have been extremely busy and our jobs registered are higher than the same period last year.

The economic data being published has showed the economy is still growing and we have record low unemployment, it’s not as gloomy as everyone thought it was going to be. Don’t get me wrong there are sectors like property and energy that are struggling and the value of the pound has nose-dived (making our holidays much more expensive), but overall nothing has changed.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Article 50 is triggered next year and what terms will be agreed with regards to our exit. But I have faith that the UK government won’t put the British public in jeopardy. Watch this space!
