Ireland – ‘The Celtic Phoenix’

Matthew Wilcox our consultant managing the role

Why is Dublin the fastest growing city in Europe?

The answer to the old joke of course is because it keeps ‘double-in and double-in’! Now while that is not factually correct, both Dublin and Ireland are seeing growth comparable to the Celtic Tiger days.

In January, Davy Stockbrokers predicted that Irish GDP would grow by 3.7% in 2017 which will likely be the strongest growth in Europe and they also expected housing construction and foreign direct investment (FDI) to help investment to grow by almost 7%.

Dublin is an international destination for fund administration, a leading centre for the global aviation leasing sector and has a flourishing fintech industry, helped largely by the low tax environment but also thanks to a well educated and English speaking population; added to this are the support services, including all of the “Big 4” accounting businesses with numerous offices in Dublin city centre and beyond. Almost every big international bank and insurance company has a presence in Dublin and most are looking to grow their operations either organically or through acquisitions.

The value of total assets under management is around €500bn with almost 13,500 funds managed here and the financial services industry employs 35,000 people just in Dublin which is impressive for a city the size of Dublin. Equally, less than 10 years on from the crash, consultants Z/Yen Group rank Dublin as number 31 on the list of international finance centres. For a country with a population of around 4.5m this is impressive stuff.

What does that mean for Marks Sattin Dublin?

Marks Sattin Dublin are continuing to support these industries, finding our clients the hard to find candidates based in Dublin and beyond and were recognised by the National Recruitment Federation as ‘Ireland’s Best Accounting and Finance Recruiter for 2016’. We are excited to build on our reputation moving into 2017.

In the first two months of the year we registered almost 40 roles within financial services across temporary, contract and permanent roles and have worked with clients looking to set up new operations here in Dublin or grow their existing operations. Those 40 roles consist of repeat clients happy with our service over a number of years (we are one of the top suppliers of contractors to one of the world’s biggest fund administrators) to new clients impressed by our strong candidate database and rapid service levels.

On top of all of this, Ireland’s unemployment rate of 6.6% is now the lowest in almost 10 years.

We are hiring!

We are currently hiring experienced consultants to join our financial services team whether that be in banking, asset management or funds services on contract or perm desks and would love to hear from consultants looking for the opportunity to build on our existing strong relationships and create new revenue streams.
