3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

This position is responsible for the operational performance of the infrastructure through implementation of IaaS platforms and engagements with our third party suppliers

The Infrastructure Engineer is to ensure the appropriate service response is delivered to company stakeholders, that processes are followed in line with standards and that spend is managed in line with expectations.
Those chosen for this role must have a variety of skills, including hands-on technical, design, communications and process. The 2 key focuses for this role will be Azure Cloud Support and 3rd part vendor management.

The Infrastructure Engineer will have a history of leading in a performance based environment and have experience and knowledge including
- Technical competency (Storage / HW Infrastructure / Networks / telephony) in the data centre/storage arena
- Governance, service and Processes
- Planning, Communications and management skills.

The role will also have knowledge and awareness of underlying technology contracts including storage and datacentre and ensure that these are managed effectively along with the services vendor.

They should proactively investigate issues and ensure these are dealt with appropriately.
They should have a strategic focus to ensure that the service evolves as services develop and transition including to public cloud, and support the project pipeline so that new services can adequately move through to production support. They must have continual service improvement ethos and work productively with vendors to improve performance and identify opportunities.
The initial focus of the role is to deliver infrastructure and operational services in partnership with our third party suppliers. In time this role will operate fully within the IaaS space as services are migrated.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and Maintaining operational platforms within the business (AD, Monitoring, IaaS, Citrix, Windows Server OS, File Services)
    * Building and Maintaining an Azure IaaS platform
    * Responsible for ensuring that performance complies with the SLAs in place
    * Enforcing compliance with established policies, practices, and processes for managing infrastructure
    * Analysing and reporting actual to contracted SLA performance levels
    * Analysing the operation for continuous improvement

Requirements

Technical Knowledge, Professional Qualifications and Experience
* Depth of infrastructure knowledge and experience across storage, networks, telephony, data centre management, back-up solutions etc.
* Hands on delivery and management of IaaS (Azure)
* Monitoring platforms (SCOM)
* Citrix
* Maintenance and management of NAS and file systems.
* Experience with delivery services and transitional services.
* Analytical ability.
* Ability to prioritize projects and deliverables.
* Ability to influence others to achieve results
* Possesses strong product/technology/industry knowledge
* Ability to manage in a matrix environment
* Customer focused
* Communication skills.
* Goal oriented
* Strong presentation skills
