Billing Specialist (3-Month Contract)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Billing Specialist to join a growing organisation within the education sector on an initial 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with billing experience to join a busy and collaborative finance team, supporting the accurate and timely processing of customer billing across multiple sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing billing activities, performing reconciliations, supporting month-end processes, and resolving a variety of billing-related queries. This role would suit someone with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and manage regular billing cycles across multiple entities and locations.
• Handle a range of non-standard billing activities, including extracurricular services, events, trips, and other miscellaneous charges.
• Perform billing and deposit reconciliations and support month-end accounting activities.
• Manage billing adjustments, discounts, and account amendments.
• Raise credit notes and process contract-related adjustments where required.
• Liaise with operational teams to resolve billing queries and ensure accurate account information.
• Maintain billing information across third-party customer portals and internal systems.
• Investigate and resolve customer billing discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Respond to customer enquiries via phone and email regarding invoices, payments, and account balances.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within billing processes and controls.

About You

• At least 18 months' experience within a finance or accounting function, ideally with exposure to billing, accounts receivable, or revenue processes.
• A solid understanding of accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping and revenue recognition.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across multiple stakeholders.
• A proactive and inquisitive approach, with a willingness to learn and develop.
• The ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines in a changing environment.
