A Midlands based Business Services Company is currently looking for a DevOps Engineer to support the development and operation of software through tools, environments and practices.

The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for underpinning good development processes including managing tools and testing environments, central code control, maintaining development standards and writing software that automates systems.

The role combines aspects of a technical role and an IT operations role. You are also likely to be involved with coding, and a knowledge of coding languages and principles is required to find problems and build solutions, though this will not be your primary responsibility.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

  • Set-up and maintain development, testing and production environments in collaboration with the developer community
  • Manage the DevOps platform(s) and working practices; building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure
  • Proficient in using best practices at every stage of the software development lifecycle; oversee repositories, source/version control methods, build and deployment pipelines (as part of secure Development lifecycle practices)
  • Work on ways to automate and improve development and release processes
  • Ensure that systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats
  • Manage and maintain current and future environments, including physical architecture and migration to Cloud (Azure)
  • Monitor everyday activities of environments and provide required support; fix faults following agreed procedures, and carry out agreed maintenance tasks on infrastructure
  • Identify development process optimisation opportunities with guidance and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions
  • Manage work items from allocation to completion within the application lifecycle management tool (Azure DevOps)
  • Staying up to date on developments in web applications and programming languages

This is an important role for an exciting company going through a huge period of transformation. They are evolving at the heart of IT and shifting to a new way of engaging & utilising technology across the business.
