Marks Sattin are currently working with a global insurance organisation for the recruitment of an Expense Analyst reporting into senior Business Function heads and the wider group finance team. This role is based in Birmingham City Centre and does include flexible/remote working opportunities.

The role is to support the accurate and timely delivery of the expense actual process - including payroll, month end processes and ledger entry, reconciliations & variance analysis & analytics reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for supporting the expense (actuals) control and reporting function, ensuring the integrity of the group cost base and supporting the Business Partner Relationship model for all functions / teams:

Responsible for supporting the delivery of expense reporting processes under the guidance of the Expense Manager & MI team management in accordance with pre-approved timetables, including:

  • All month end ledger entries (for all processes owned)
  • Variance analysis (incl. Direct Cost Reports)
  • Expense allocation and trigger process, reclass, cost-plus & deferrals
  • Running analytics process
  • Controls and governance framework
  • Continuously strive to develop reporting capabilities for process efficiency and reporting effectiveness
  • Ownership, and development, of the process documentation framework in place for expense team's responsibilities

Annual Budget & Quarterly Forecast

  • Responsible for supporting the delivery of the annual expense budget & quarterly forecasts within defined timetables when required - through Expense allocation and trigger process, reclass, cost-plus & deferrals processes

Business Partnering Capabilities

  • Strives to understand all dimensions of the client and their underlying business as it influences their results:
  • Knowledge of the individuals within the teams including communication preferences

Technical Competencies

  • Develop knowledge of the insurance marketing and the accounting policies adopted
  • Ability to help review existing models, processes and procedures and implement improvements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team

Education and Qualifications

  • Experienced qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Insurance experience is desirable
