Jamie shares what he believes sets Marks Sattin apart

Jamie Smith our consultant managing the role
When did you join us and how has your journey been so far?

I joined Marks Sattin in Summer 2018 and so far my journey has been really positive. Although there have been ups and downs, the leadership team constantly encourage me and remind me that recruitment can be a roller coaster.

Why recruitment?

I studied a Sports Coaching degree at the University of East London where I graduated in 2015 with a 2:1. I planned on becoming a PE teacher and study towards my PGCE but changed my mind, conveniently at the same time my friend recommended recruitment. A few interviews later, I got a job doing compliance for a healthcare recruitment company and quickly realised I would be well suited to a consultant role. I was particularly interested in a role where I could manage both the client facing and candidate side of the business.  A year later I was offered my first consultant role in an education recruitment firm where I spent two years. After spending two years in education I wanted to take the next progressive step and work in the city. Luckily enough, Marks Sattin contacted me expressing interest and after meeting a number of the managers, I knew it was the right fit for me.

What makes Marks Sattin different to other recruitment firms?

A large part of Marks Sattin’s culture is down to the guidance and training provided, with weekly training sessions and ongoing development provided by all the senior management you never feel left behind. They provide a route into finance recruitment for people from all backgrounds, from graduates to senior consultants, creating an inclusive environment with people from all walks of life, forming a massive part of the company culture.

Random fact about you?

I am a qualified football coach and have coached in special needs schools for a number of years.
