Marks Sattin is partnering with a growing organisation in Leeds (Close to the Centre) to recruit an ambitious Assistant Accountant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build their career within a forward-thinking finance team, offering broad exposure across the month-end process and wider transactional finance.

As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role within the General Ledger team while supporting Accounts Payable, Credit Control and other core finance activities.

This is a hands-on, varied role ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, improving processes, and taking ownership of tasks.

Our client will pay up to £30,000 DOE, offering hybrid working (2 days in the office per week), study support (AAT/CIMA/ACCA) and more!

Ideally you will have experience within an Accounts Assistant/AP/Finance Assistant role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing month-end journals and supporting period-end close.
  • Producing analysis, commentary, and variance insight for key account balances.
  • Completing monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reconciliations to audit-ready standards.
  • Performing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations, including FX retranslation.
  • Producing and presenting cost centre reports for functional leaders.
  • Posting daily cash receipts to customer accounts.
  • Assisting with year-end statutory accounts and the external audit process.
  • Supporting a range of ad-hoc reporting and finance tasks.

About You

  • Experience in a finance role is essential (AP, or Accounts Assistant roles)
  • Strong academic background, ideally with A-Levels (or equivalent) in Accountancy, Business, or Mathematics.
  • Excellent Excel skills and confidence handling large data sets.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • SAP experience beneficial but not essential.
