Birmingham celebrates 1st anniversary

Becky Hughes our consultant managing the role

Marks Sattin celebrated its first anniversary in Birmingham this week.

Our Newhall Street office opened its doors on September 21 2015. The branch has already doubled in size from a three-man team to six, placing nearly 100 individuals into new roles and is targeting further growth in line with the huge investments in the region by the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, Birmingham Airport and HSBC.

One of our Directors said: “The sheer level of investment in the region is a major driver for us – the economy is booming and we are expanding to respond to that demand. We have experienced considerable growth. It is a very competitive market – there are four finance recruiters within 100 yards of our office in Birmingham – but we have a great team and have hired dedicated specialists, we are the new boys on the block and have made everybody else sit up and take notice.”

A consultant said: “We cover both the East and West Midlands but we have been so busy with Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire that we have yet to tap into the East Midlands.  It has been hard work to set up in a new market – but the lessons we have learnt have been invaluable. Our focus from day one has been on offering a quality service.”

You certainly know the team is doing a great job when they get thank you cards from candidates with cash inside as Christian did just last week.

The team have made a point of becoming a real part of the business community by joining the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce and recently attended the Asian Business Chamber Patrons Dinner at Malmaison Birmingham.

It’s not all work! The Birmingham team took on the incredible challenge of cycling/spinning the distance between Birmingham and Rio between May and the start of the Olympics in August – 5,767 miles which they took very seriously.  The funds raised went towards the £15,900 that Marks Sattin has raised for our charity partner is Solving Kids' Cancer (Europe) which helps families affected by high-risk childhood cancers by supporting access to treatment, research, parent education and raising awareness.

The office is set to grow to 10 specialist consultants by the last quarter of 2017.  Our Manager – Professional Services, said: “Since opening the team has gone from strength to strength and this success is a clear testament to the support of Managing Director Matthew Wilcox and the resources provided by the wider infrastructure of an established business.”
