Women at Marks Sattin: Meet Elisa, Manager in our Amsterdam office!
Can you tell us a bit about your career in recruitment so far?
I've been in the recruitment industry for nearly 7 years now, and it all started by chance. Originally, I was pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, but by my second year, I realised that accounting wasn't for me. Unsure of my next steps, I decided to take a year off from both my studies and work to rethink my career path. During this time, I worked in an office to gain some experience. Having previously worked part-time in hospitality through an agency, I decided to apply for a recruiter position at the same company.
Having already been familiar with the business, clients, and colleagues due to my previous role in the field, I was hired as a recruiter. This marked the beginning of my journey in recruitment. Over the years, I've advanced in my career and had the opportunity to work with various companies. My recruitment experience spans diverse sectors, including hospitality, staffing, infrastructure, construction, and even recruiting other recruiters. Currently, I specialise in recruiting financial professionals.
What attracted you to join Marks Sattin?
What attracted me the most was the culture and the working environment. At Marks Sattin, there's a diversity of people, creating a vibrant multicultural atmosphere where respect for everyone is evident. The way of working attracted me as well, you get a lot of freedom in how you would like to organise your work and a lot of flexibility according to your start and end-time, and working from home option. This flexibility allows me to balance my personal life with my professional responsibilities perfectly.
What do you bring to the table as member of our leadership team in the Netherlands?
I bring a positive mentality. As a leader it’s important for me to set a good example. I encourage consultants to strive to be the best versions of themselves, as I genuinely want them to succeed. I truly believe that mindset plays a significant role in what can be accomplished.
As a Manager, how do you envisage your team expanding over the next 12-18 months?
What career opportunities & growth prospects can you offer to new consultants joining your team?
We offer a variety of career pathways within our organisation. Every consultant we bring on board begins in a 360 role, where you will engage in both recruitment and business development simultaneously. After advancing from Consultant to Senior Consultant, individuals can progress further to either a managerial or principal position, depending on their personal career ambitions. For those inclined to mentor and lead a team, the managerial path may be the right way to go. If your passion lies in expanding business opportunities, then the principal role is the next logical step. In either capacity, you'll have the chance to establish your own portfolio, such as pioneering efforts in new market sectors.
How have you found working in a traditionally male dominated industry, and have you noticed any shifts throughout your career so far?
In my previous job where I worked in this industry, it was indeed more male dominated. But at Marks Sattin it's a good 50/50 ratio. Personally for me it doesn't really matter, but I think women have lots of benefits working in a sales oriented recruitment position.
