Senior Payroll Officer - Guildford, Surrey

I am happy to be working with an exceptional professional services organisation based In Guildford, Surrey, to assist them in finding an experienced Senior Payroll Officer (Outsourced). The role sits in an outsourcing payroll team of 12 reporting into the Outsourced Payroll Manager, supporting with the running of the day to day payroll offering, and is for an initial period of 6 months, but with full scope and headcount to go permanent thereafter, with this being the case, the ideal candidate will be immediately available or on a reduced notice period.

The Duties:

  • Look after portfolio of own clients
  • Assist Manager in ensuring payroll client commitments are met, including all client staff are paid accurately and on time
  • Assisting with managing staff / client issues / problems on payroll matters
  • Ensuring that developments in payroll related matters are monitored and reacted to

The Candidate:

  • Must be immediately available or on a short notice period
  • Experience in an outsourced payroll team or large organisation
  • Experience using STAR or IRIS payroll systems is essential
  • Ability to take the lead in maintaining and developing client relationships
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness by ensuring work is carried out at the appropriate length of time and within budget for the quote agreed with the client
  • Work collaboratively with peers in team and across the firm
  • Ability to absorb changes in regulations and implement them into working practices
  • Ability to manage peak work times in payroll processing, with the expectation of meeting all deadlines with accuracy
  • Ability to perform on a proactive basis and motivate team staff members to follow this approach as well
  • Simultaneous management of multiple payrolls
  • Ability to be the client's main point of contact
  • Experience of working collaboratively with team members, assisting both colleagues and payroll manager with their work load as needed.
  • Enthusiasm to grow the department and further develop and improve on the payroll offering
  • Preferably experience of acting in a practice environment dealing with external clients, but not essential for the right candidate.
  • Current knowledge of developments in the sector
  • Good Excel skills using V-lookup/pivot tables
