A multinational commodities company is seeking an Accounting Policy Specialist to join their Central London based office. Serving millions of customers around the world, this business operates in more than 80 countries. This team is a dynamic and highly skilled workforce, which creates value by combining analysis and commercial innovation with the material asset base of the business.

The Role

You will provide assurance on the application of accounting policy, supporting and reporting to the Head of Accounting Policy.

  • Lead the provision of advice to Finance teams on the application of the Group Reporting Manual, in particular in relation to commodity contracts, derivative accounting, lease accounting, and working capital management.
  • Assist with ensuring that the existing accounting policies within are accurate and updated to reflect the current state of authoritative literature.
  • Provide oversight to the year end submission of data
  • Stay abreast of emerging accounting literature, acting as a subject matter expert on new guidance affecting the business. Lead the implementation effort in respect of new accounting standards (IFRS 9, 15 and 16).
  • Support the Head of Accounting Policy at the APDT and Due Diligence meetings, preparing and presenting on required updates and results.
  • Lead training on accounting policy matters to a variety of audiences.

Personal Profile

You need to be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or CPA) and be technically proficient in IFRS, in particular IAS39/IFRS 9. It is crucial to have significant experience in the application of IFRS, ideally in a public accounting firm or trading business. Having worked within the commodities industry before is also highly desirable.
