We have been exclusively retained by this prestigious brand named employer/group, steeped in history and tradition here in the Yorkshire region. Operating in a fast paced FMCG/Consumer products based sector, this OMB client who are entrepreneurial and extremely ambitious are embarking on a journey with fresh impetus to increase their market share and grow over the next few years. We are inviting applicants to take on the role as Financial controller, who will in effect be Head of Finance for the business. Reporting into the Managing Director (who will give you full autonomy and responsibility over the finance function), with a dotted line into the Group CFO, this is an exciting time to join a company who have had a new lease of life and invested in infrastructure and acquiring a high calibre leadership team full of high quality operators. The role is very hands on and covers all aspects of financial and management reporting for the business, supported by a team of 4. An outline of duties include:

  • Manage a team of 4 in Finance; Overall responsibility for ledgers , AP , Payroll and AR
  • Confident in dealing with external parties ( Bank / HMRC / Auditors )
  • Working Capital Management is key
  • Significant involvement in the Budgeting / Forecasting process
  • Develop collaborative relationships with Departmental Managers and instigate Head Office Cost Reviews
  • Management of month end Management Accts process to required deadlines. Take the lead in identifying cost savings, and commercial opportunities for growth into new markets locations. Key player in trying to realise both top and bottom line benefits for the company
  • Balance Sheet Control , especially Concession Control Accounts and Stock / GRNI reconciliations
  • Ensure robust control environment around all financial processes - some of which may require re-defining, particularly around Stock Accounting
  • Lead the year end audit and Stat Accts process ( a Group structure exists but it's reasonably simple
  • VAT Returns / PSC (Annual) Returns and other statutory requirements

The ideal candidate will have operated in a financial management role as company accountant, Finance Manager, Head of Finance (or equivalent). CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified would be a big plus, more important is someone who has worked in a multi-site environment within an FMCG/Consumer products/Sales based business. As key is a track record of working in a Small/Medium sized (SME) organisation where you have had the opportunity to influence and impact across the business and have regular interaction with the leadership team and board all the way to people on the operational floor. The confidence to hold your own and be proactive in suggesting processes and commercial improvement
