UK Indirect Tax Manager
- Permanent
Leeds, West Yorkshire
The details
Marks Sattin is working with a fast-growing, internationally active business in the professional services sector, seeking a UK Indirect Tax Manager to take full ownership of indirect tax across the UK region. This is a newly created role, reflecting the group's sustained growth and increasing complexity in its UK operations.
Working closely with UK Finance and operational teams, this is a commercially critical role focused on delivering high-quality tax advisory support, while also ensuring a robust approach to compliance and risk management.
You'll act as a strategic partner to senior stakeholders, advising on VAT treatment of complex transactions, managing cross-border tax implications, and overseeing compliance with UK VAT, CIS, and employee-related tax obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
Advisory & Business Partnering
- Lead on UK VAT and indirect tax advisory, with a focus on contracting arrangements and cross-border transactions
- Provide practical, commercially focused tax input into business decisions, corporate structuring, and commercial negotiations
- Ensure VAT and indirect tax considerations are embedded early in project lifecycles and operational planning
- Partner with senior leaders across the UK business, offering clear, risk-aware guidance on both indirect and relevant direct tax matters
Compliance & Risk
- Manage accurate and timely preparation of VAT returns across the UK and any relevant overseas registrations
- Oversee compliance with CIS and other indirect tax reporting obligations
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, ensuring tax positions are well documented and risks are identified early
- Monitor legislative changes, assess impacts, and ensure the business remains well positioned and compliant
- Support process improvement and enhanced reporting, including alignment with SOx control requirements where applicable
Stakeholder & Advisor Management
- Provide structured training and ongoing support to the UK Finance team on VAT and indirect tax compliance
- Act as the UK tax liaison within Group Tax, ensuring alignment with global strategy and external advisor input
Candidate Profile:
- Qualified tax professional or accountant with significant UK VAT and indirect tax experience
- Background in industry (in-house tax role) or professional services firm
- Strong technical grasp of UK VAT; experience with CIS and employee-related taxes (e.g. PSA, STBV) is highly desirable
- Ability to explain complex tax issues with clarity and precision
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to advise and influence at a senior level
- Experience in professional services or consulting environments is advantageous
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Dynamics, SAP, Oracle)
This is an excellent opportunity to shape and lead the UK indirect tax function within a dynamic, growth-focused organisation. You'll gain broad exposure across the business, with the autonomy to build capability and drive best practice
