Interim Finance Manager - Management Accounting

£250 - £300 per day / £45K - £55K


This individual will be responsible for all aspects of financial analysis and reporting. You will lead a team of four management accountants and provide disciplined financial management as well as supporting the business with valued commercial analysis and insight.


  • Management and development of a team of four direct reports.
  • Ensure robust financial controls and processes are in place across the team, well understood and appropriately followed.
  • Oversight of the smooth-running of the month-end close process and posting of results for the period.
  • Accurate production of financial forecasts for the fuel portfolio, including analysis of movements between forecasts and comparison of actual results to previous forecasts.
  • Review and sign-off on new commercial contract valuations, ensuring all financial matters are considered.
  • Provide valued business partnering to the Commercial teams within the business (biomass, coal and logistics), building effective relationships, managing various stakeholders and supporting their strategic and operational decisions.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, offering explanations and assistance in their work and ensuring that audit points are addressed and rectified in a timely manner.

Key skills and experience needed

  • Qualified accountant with solid PQE experience
  • A thorough knowledge of management accounting and reporting, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of end users.
  • Strong analytical and IT skills, particularly Excel and the use of spreadsheet models.
  • Experience of preparing and analysing short, medium and long-term financial forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Able to adapt quickly to changing business needs, providing solutions to problems whilst ensuring buy-in from all parties involved.
  • An excellent communicator, able to influence at all levels of the organisation and comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of financial control.
  • Confident and self-motivated.
  • Experience of developing a team and encouraging interactions with the wider business, driving a culture of continuous improvement.
