Senior Manager Business Analysis

Role Purpose

  • The role holder will drive insightful strategic planning, business performance analysis, and planning and forecasting thereby providing executive decision support covering all aspects of finance to the global head of Global Banking and to the Global Banking senior management team.
  • The role supports the Head of Business Information and Analysis (BI&A) as business partner to Global Banking business globally. The role holder is required to develop a network within the businesses and build a reputation as trusted advisor and an effective liaison between the central management office and regional business finance teams. Furthermore, the role holder will be asked to represent Business Finance in a number of management meetings as responsible or delegate to the Head of BI&A.
  • Global Banking globally is faced with continuing to meet the needs of clients while navigating the challenges of RoTE, Basel IV, IFRS 9, Brexit and the Ring Fence Banking Legislation. Strong business partnering and thought leadership is essential to support the business with a clear overview of the business performance and drivers.
  • There are a lot of opportunities to improve processes and lead engagement and commercial analysis on strategic initiatives. The successful applicant should have a positive perspective on change and continuous improvements. They will demonstrate excellent communication skills, experience working with Senior executives and the ability to manage competing priorities by assessing urgent versus important whilst leveraging relationships across the wider Finance and Business teams to deliver outcomes.
  • The role will be supported by Global Banking Finance GFC (offshore) team.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

  • Responsibility for ensuring performance reporting meets the needs of senior management, and all stakeholders
  • Ability to understand the motive behind transactions and identify patterns that lead to changes in risk/return profile
  • Responsibility for working with the businesses to set AOP and Strategic targets and hold the business to account for the actions set out in these plans.
  • Responsibility for working with the business and the broader GB&M Finance team to co-ordinate the Global Banking response to PRA stress testing exercises.
  • Drive efficiencies in production of MI reporting; streamline processes and standardise where possible.
  • Responsibility for understanding and providing robust challenge to the calculation and attribution of Global Banking RWAs as reported in RCT.
  • Has an understanding of Investment Banking products and the impact of changes in macroeconomic factors.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Deputise for the Head of BI&A when required
  • Role model collaborative behaviours, actively share ideas / approaches with e.g. across Regional teams or Global Business teams, Finance network, Catalyst Agents
  • Work independently and make decisions based on sound logic.
  • Direct the team offshore on a day to day basis to ensure deliverables are produced on time and are to the highest standard.
  • Actively participate in the wider GB Finance activities, initiatives, functions.

Role Context

  • The Global team is undergoing a transformation, focusing on business partnering and helping to add value to the business through the production of commercial analysis; the role holder must be able to show a proactive 'change' mentality and already have a proven track record of successful business partnering
  • The role holder will be involved in a wide range of projects affecting Global Banking such as RoTE, BaselIV, IFRS9 9, Brexit deployment and the potential rollout of Finance systems such as RWA production.
  • The role holder will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of independence and be prepared to make decisions to further refine the role and implement changes identified by the Head of BI&A, Global Banking.
  • Focus on commercial and business issues, performance analysis and business planning, working with Business Heads, Business Development teams, Deal teams and Associates.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or hold and MBA
  • 5yrs+ relevant work experience and strong financial services knowledge
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
  • Commercially minded; customer focused
  • Proven track record of successful business partnering
  • Be able to show a proactive 'change' mentality
  • Strong IT skills, especially Excel. VBA and Access is a plus but not essential.
  • Time management - ensure that all deadlines are met on time without sacrificing quality of information
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment
  • Previous experience of working with offshore teams to coordinate the compilation of data would be an advantage
  • Team player due to inherent dependency upon other areas of Finance
  • Ability to highlight problems but more importantly offer solutions and drive through their execution in a collective environment.
