Meeting Guido, Senior Consultant in Amsterdam!
Guido Buwalda
After two years in finance recruitment as an Accountancy and Tax specialist within a fast-growing international recruitment consultancy, I made the switch to Marks Sattin to help establish and grow the Amsterdam office. As Senior Consultant, I will guide any finance professional looking for a new job opportunity and help clients find the best person for the job.
Contact meWelcome to Marks Sattin Guido, how are you finding everything so far?
It’s been amazing so far! I’ve had a wonderful welcome and feel like I’m part of the MS family. The English culture and humour complement our Dutch culture, and it's been a lot of fun meeting everyone across the offices during the company reviews.
Guido, tell us a little bit about your career so far, how did you get into recruitment?
It's now almost been three years since I’ve entered recruitment and I think I’ve gotten quite far in these three years. I’ve changed a lot as a person, of course in a positive way, and I think it will change me even more in the coming years.
My career in recruitment began when I found myself temporarily unemployed. My previous job in a local marina was season bound, and during the winter months, they didn’t have any work for me. I went around my friend's house who was working in recruitment, he was telling me about all the nice things he got to do with his team and the career possibilities at that firm. So, I told him, I want to work at that firm too! The following Monday, I went into their office for my first interview, and the next morning a second interview, and on the Wednesday, I signed my contract!
You were our second employee in Amsterdam, what made you want to join us here at such an early stage in our Dutch journey?
As a person, I want to continue learning new things, and more importantly, I want to develop as much as possible. There is no better environment to learn things in a short period of time than in a start-up environment, but even better is a start-up environment backed up by a well performing firm. The Amsterdam office is in my opinion the best-case scenario for a person to grow exponentially and make big steps in their career. Besides that, Mark Korevaar, and I get along really well, and our vision on how to build an office corresponded too. Additionally, the company culture matched mine, so I joined!
How would you describe your team and Marks Sattin’s business culture?
Our team is open, down to earth, and we’ve grown quite close over the past six months. We work together whenever necessary and brainstorm regularly on business development, as well as on strategies for the office and future of the business. Furthermore, we are really open about our personal lives and are really informal towards each other.
What is your stand-out achievements or best memories with Marks Sattin so far?
There’s one achievement that stands out and that was the wildcard I got for the Ibiza trip, at our recent company review. That was absolutely unbelievable, and I had so much fun! It was also one of the best memories I had here. Matt Wilcox announced all the winners, and all of a sudden, my name and picture appeared on the screen, and everyone clapped and shouted my name. This really made me feel appreciated for all the work I had done. This really made me feel appreciated for all the work I had done.
What advice would you give to recruitment consultants who are considering joining Marks Sattin in Amsterdam?
