IT Portfolio Manager

A pan-UK organisation within the logistics space is currently seeking an Interim IT Portfolio Manager on a contract basis for an initial 6 months based in the West Midlands. The main remit of the role is to prioritise, manage and coordinate the delivery of the portfolio. The candidate will work with ICT leadership, demand manager, service and capacity managers to ensure that the IT portfolio and business plans are aligned with the ICT Strategy and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve portfolio governance, control and reporting including benefits realisation. May be required to chair Portfolio level governance on behalf of ICT leadership.
  • Fully responsible for the creation and delivery of the portfolio function based on agile and lean methodologies.
  • Responsible for working with the relevant teams to develop and maintain the high level delivery roadmap.
  • Regularly monitors the performance of the portfolio, initiating activity where needed in response to learning and new opportunities.
  • Brief colleagues on portfolio performance, and promotes alignment of ICT capabilities with associated business opportunities
  • Champions continuous improvement programmes based on key performance indicators, to challenge team performance and develop strategies and incentives to enhance performance

Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience of a number of aspects of ICT disciplines such planning and development, project management, delivery methodologies, and policy development in public or private sector
  • A background of rail or large construction programmes or large transformation programmes inside or outside government
  • A strong track record of working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Digitally literate and capable of effectively engaging with technical staff, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Experience of setting up a new control function for a technology programme in a blended permanent and contractor environment.
  • Desire to deliver pragmatic outcomes that benefit the wider organisation.
  • Highly motivated and able to energise and support a team to deliver.
  • Extensive knowledge of Project Management software such as MS Project preferred.
